Our story

Howell and Co is a gallery and store that showcases unique craftsmanship and artistry in a space that is bold, enlivened and dynamic. We create a platform for artists at various points in their trajectories whose work moves us. The choice in who to represent is as simple as that, if the work inspires awe in us. Howell and Co is not a typical white-walled, open-format gallery, but instead a space that is filled with forms, layers and textures. A core value of Howell and Co is the belief that art and design impart emotion, of which can be communicated in an immersive surrounding where different pieces can be in a lively conversation with one another.

We show artist’s exhibitions on a rotating basis that have been carefully assembled and considered as a collaboration between Lawren and the artist. Exhibitions will change seasonally or annually depending on the type of work. Each collection will be presented as a show with an accompanying artist statement created by Howell and Co with the contribution of the artist. Throughout the year we create activations in the Howell and Co space where guests are invited to come and discover the exhibitions and join us for experiences ranging from book signings to trunk shows to tastings etc.

In addition to rotating shows, our space works much like a traditional store with furniture, art, and decor accessories that are for sale without the time frame of a seasonal show. We create upholstered furniture pieces for sale, these are antiques that we have restored and re-cover ed in artistic fabrics, fabrics that have been handmade by indigenous or generational craft communities.

Our Values

At the dawn of the age of AI, we find ourselves being drawn to real art objects more and more than ever. In fact, being in the presence of human-made art, in this age of artifice, connects us with the life blood of our own humanity. The artist or maker should be exalted as we lean on technology more and more in our day to day living, as making art is the one of most fundamental thing that makes us human. In that way, those that make art bring us back to who we are as humans. We are here to share with you the art and objects that simply make us pause, that intrigue us and that cause us to slow down and admire.
