CHET TAYLOR
Chet Taylor is a California-based artist working with wood, metal, and concrete. His furniture practice draws on modernist design principles and traditional joinery to create sculptural forms from salvaged wood sourced from fallen trees in the Ojai Valley. Emphasizing restraint and proportion, Taylor works the material minimally, allowing the natural structure and texture of the wood to guide each piece. Chairs are assembled without nails or screws, relying instead on large-scale mortise and tenon joinery and finished with tung oil. Growing up in Carpinteria, Taylor developed a deep connection to the landscapes of Carpinteria, Ojai, and Santa Barbara, which continues to inform his material sensibility. Taylor completed a BFA at ArtCenter College of Design in 2023.
